Welbourne Jazz Camp was created in 2011 by Amy Johnson (swing/jazz dancer and mastermind behind The Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown) and Ben Polcer (trumpet player, piano player, and master band leader) with the purpose of bridging the gap between traditonal jazz, swing, and blues, and the dances that are inspired by them.

Inspired by their collaborations with many New Orleans bands (most notably Meschiya Lake & The Lil Big Horns as well as the Loose Marbles), plus the influx of swing dancers picking up instruments, Amy and Ben realized that there was a place for a new kind of camp that paired dance education alongside jazz music education. And thus, Welbourne Jazz Camp was born.

Welbourne Farm has a lengthy history ( 30 plus years) of bringing New Orleans and New York musicians to play jazz parties on their front porch. After playing and dancing at these parties, and developing a deep friendship with the Morison family (the owners of Welbourne Farm), Welbourne seemed like the most logical place to run this dream camp. With 520 acres of rolling hills and an historic house with plenty of space, Welbourne Farm offers a gorgeous backdrop to focus on ones craft in an unique and intimate live/work/play setting.

We are thrilled to now be offering the same magic that has been created in Virginia in our home state of Louisiana.
